Το LCS-11 Sioux City, της κλάσης Freedom, βρίσκεται εδώ και δυο σχεδόν εβδομάδες στη Μεσόγειο Θάλασσα. Το πλοίο εστάλη από τον 5ο Στόλο του Ατλαντικού στον 6ο της Μεσογείου, σε μια προσπάθεια ενίσχυσης των αμερικανικών ναυτικών δυνάμεων στην περιοχή. Θυμίζουμε πως υπάρχει ικανός αριθμός ρωσικών πολεμικών πλοίων στη Μεσόγειο (με βάση στη Συρία).

Βέβαια, θα είμαστε ειλικρινείς. Μια απλή άσκηση του 6ου Στόλου δεν δικαιολογεί άρθρο, αλλά με την ευκαιρία θέλουμε να πούμε πως τα LCS, παρά τα όσα γράφονται, δεν είναι δυστυχώς διαθέσιμα για άμεση διάθεση στο ΠΝ. Και παρά τις φιλότιμες προσπάθειες του Gilday, το Κονγκρέσο δεν σκοπεύει να επιτρέψει στο USN την απόσυρση πλοίων με λίγα χρόνια υπηρεσίας.
